Cardinal Greenway for Website.jpg

Cardinal Greenway Expansion

One of the largest trail systems in the state of Indiana, the Cardinal Greenway stands as East Central Indiana’s premier outdoor opportunity. However, a gap in the trail currently exists between the communities of Jonesboro and Gaston, which has long prevented the project from being realized as a continuous, over sixty-mile-long pathway. Through the Main Street Mile Initiative, Taylor University has partnered with the Cardinal Greenways for the pathway to run through land owned by the University in Upland, creating a midpoint in the ‘trail gap’ and an opportunity for the project to finally be fully realized.

Kershner Commons Expansion

To meet Upland’s significant housing shortage, the Main Street Mile Initiative includes plans to develop Phase Two of the existing Kershner Commons neighborhood, creating twenty-two new single-family home lots approximately halfway between the Taylor University campus and Downtown Upland. Powered by $1.75 million in READI 2.0 funding, engineering work for the project is currently underway. If you would like to be placed on an interest list for a home lot, please fill out this form.

Main Street Pathway

The Main Street Pathway is a lighted one-mile pedestrian connector between Downtown Upland and the Taylor University campus. The Pathway is finished in concrete and eight feet wide, perfect for groups to move around Upland and get active, and connects directly to the Detamore Trail near Downtown. In the future, the Pathway will connect to Taylor University’s Campus Perimeter Trail, and to a trail spur leading to the Cardinal Greenway.
